My favorite hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway is the “up and back” of Rough Ridge. This hike is short but scenic, with panoramic vistas all along the short hike up to the top. It is rated as “Moderate”, and I think that is a fair rating. The incline can be a little tough for the uninitiated, but the trail is open, and there are plenty of places along the way to stop and catch your breath and admire the views of the nearby Grandfather Mountain, the Linn Cove Viaduct, and nearby peaks. On a clear day, one can even make out the skyline for Charlotte, 90 miles away.
