I just feel the need to write something, ANYTHING, today.
The last few weeks have been crazy for the world. We’ve had record-strength hurricanes decimating the Caribbean and the southern US coastline, an ongoing debate about protesting during the national anthem, and a lone gunman killing dozens of people at a concert in Las Vegas.
Creatively, I WANT to write. I have started 5-6 blog posts in the last 2 weeks, but none of them have seen the light of day. Current events have sucked any small amounts of creativity from me and I can’t seem to finish anything. I’m struggling to find my voice with so much chaos; I just don’t think it can be heard over the cacophony of political unrest and debate.
While I have definitive opinions about the political dissatisfaction within our country and I like to make my opinions heard, there is no comity anymore. Each side attempts to out shout the other, with vitriolic name calling and finger-pointing. There is no ability to have an intelligent debate anymore. With sadness I watch as this country is dissolving right in front of my eyes. We are not fighting with ISIS, North Korea or the object of Trump’s tweetstorm du jour. Right now our country’s biggest war is with itself. And in this war, there will be no winners, only losers.
